Egwu Eke (Python Dance)
When I heard the Egwe Eke (Python dance), I thought it's going to be a new African hip-hop by Phyno futuring Flavour and Zoro probably with Ogene sound (Ndi be Udu Band). I quickly buckled my dancing shoe. Embarked on personal dancing style, acquiring new skill and format, so that I can dance till the very last beat.
Alas, the tempo is different,
I know this sound, its from the juntas
The stiff-hands playing the bullet-filled-drum
Provoking innocence to anger
Chinese kick instead of Une dancing step
It's time the twisted strings got broken,
The drum bursted,
And the drumsticks used as firewood to burn to aches the fetus of this evil child.
This is not a dance we bargain for.
The tempo is too wild and the drummers too wild.
Or rather, let the musicians be summoned
And embark on a futile remedy
A quick training and orientation for better sound
Best instruments made with love
The drums-lather made from a cheerful animal skin.
And our dancing steps become sweet again.
Let this Egwu Eke dance stop
It's not good for our feet.
